Damascus - Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem discussed on Wednesday with President of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Italian Parliament Stefano Stefani bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing them.

Talks also dealt with the Middle East peace process and the positive developments in Lebanon, in addition to the tragic deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly Gaza Strip, due to the Israeli siege and violent practices.

Minister al-Moallem underlined Syria's active role in achieving security and stability in the region based on the importance of this role and its presidency of the Arab Summit.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee at the People's Assembly Suleiman Haddad, Assistant Foreign Minister Abdul-Fattah Ammoura, the Director of the Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry, and the delegation accompanying Mr. Stefani.
