Damascus - Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and his Deputy Fayssal Mikdad met respectively on Monday with Deputy South African Foreign Minister Ebrahim Ebrahim.

They discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and means of enhancing them in all fields.

During the meetings, the two sides stressed the importance of South Africa's role is supporting just causes in the region and the world. They also reviewed latest developments in the region, mainly in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq.

Ebrahim said his country appreciates Syria's strategic and important role in all fields, reiterating support to Syria's right to restoring the occupied Syrian Golan and to Palestinians' right to establishing an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He called for halting Israeli aggressions on Palestinians and implementing the relevant UN resolutions that guarantee just and comprehensive peace in the region.

In another meeting, Information Minister Mohsen Bilal discussed with Ebrahim media relations between Syria and South Africa and means of bolstering them.

Bilal stressed the importance of communication between media institutions in Syria and South Africa in the common interests of both countries, reflecting the common stances regarding regional and international issues.

He hailed South Africa's stances in support of the Arabs and the Palestinian just cause.

The two sides discussed means of bolstering media cooperation and its importance in opening broad prospects for developing relations in all political, economic and cultural fields.

For his part, Ebrahim hailed the friendly relations between Syria and South Africa, voicing desire to enhance media cooperation with Syria that reflects positively on all cooperation fields.
