Doha- More and more Doha-based companies and establishments are shifting their operations to Al Khor. Educational institutions are also exploring the possibilities of launching their campuses in Al Khor.
The Urban Planning Development Authority's (UPDA) plan to develop Al Khor as a model city has also added to the charm of the city for the real estate sector. After the announcement of a multi-billion dollar project in February, the real estate market in the town has registered a sudden upswing, market sources told The Peninsula.
Most service companies of the oil sector were earlier based in Doha, taking advantage of the proximity to the airport and the Doha port. Many of these companies have either shifted their operations to Al Khor or opened their new centres in the city.
The Qatar Foundation (QF) has already announced its decision to open a second Qatar Academy in Al Khor in September this year. At least two Indian schools are planning to open their campuses in the city. With new schools coming up in Al Khor, there are also chances of a large number of families shifting to Al Khor. As of now, for want of ideal schools in the city, a large number of employees working in the oil and gas sectors are forced to stay in Doha. Once Al Khor gets new schools, these employees will also shift their families to Khor, offcials told this newspaper.
The UPDA has made it clear that the land use in Al Khor will be soon subjected to strict regulations. The UPDA is to develop Al Khor visualizing its growth for the next 25 years. The master plan will take care of the cultural heritage of the city.
