Al Jazira won the match-of-the-week, defeating Al Nasr 2-1 to continue sharing the leadership of the UAE National Football League with their neighbours Al Wahda. Both have 10 points from four matches.
Ahli, meanwhile, settled for a surprising 2-2 home tie with Emirates the bottom team.
Al Shabab and Al Shaab recovered from their problems in style beating traditional rivals, Al Wasl and Sharjah, respectively, to prove that this season the competition will be even tougher and more unpredictable than ever before.
Dibba Al Hisn, met their first defeat and were trounced by Al Ain 4-0 realising for the first time the vast differences between the top teams and the newcomers.
It was a "Red Night" of the league as no less than seven players were shown the red card in addition to German, Winfried Shaefer, the head coach of Ahli. The players sent off were: Subait Khater and Ali Massari from Al Ain, Adil Rashood from Al Hisn, Adil Abdul Aziz from Ahli, Jawhar Ali from Sharjah, Ebrahim Ali from Al Shabab and Tarig Hassan from Al Wasl. Argentinian Guly put Al Nasr ahead, following a goalless first half, but Nigerian Ogbeche was soon on the traget, equalising for Al Jazira with his sixth goal in four matches.
Mohammad Omar then scored the winner for the home team. It was the 99th league goal of Omar's career. It was also Omar's second goal this season in as many matches as he missed his team's first two matches through suspension.
The Abu Dhabi Derby on October 15, between Al Jazira and defending champions Al Wahda, will decide the shape of the top of the standings. Al Shaab and Al Shabab, who were both under fire recently, scored their first victories. Al Shaab beat Sharjah 2-1 in an away tie, while Al Shabab defeated Al Wasl 4-2, also in an away match. Iranian Ali Samerah was the hero for Al Shaab, scoring both the goals, while Brazilian Anderson scored for Sharjah.
Al Shabab's Ali Rashid scored twice, while Salim Sa'ad and Manga also added to the tally. Farhad Majidi's brace was not enough for Al Wasl. Al Ain made Al Hisn taste their first defeat of the season. The former AFC Champions League winners blanked out Al Hisn 4-0 with Oneykashi, Tejada, Al Waheebi and Shihab Ahmad staying on target. The teams now take a 10-day break for UAE's friendly match against Oman.
