Dubai, May 05th, 2010 (WAM)--The Federal National Council (FNC) Speaker HE Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, discussed today at Park Hayatt Dubai Hotel with the Maldivian Speaker HE Abdullah Shahid, ways to enhance cooperation between the two parliaments, especially in the political, economic and tourism areas.
Al Ghurair briefed Shahid about the policies of the FNC and mechanism of electing half of 40 members and efforts towards boosting democracy through participation of citizens as per directives of the leadership. He noted that half of the FNC members were elected, adding that the female members of parliament are 9out 40 MPs, constituting 32 per cent of the FNC, and representing the highest women rate in the parliament across the globe. Al Ghurair added that the other half was appointed. They discussed importance of effective woman role in the parliament. The Maldivian Speaker thanked Al Ghurair for good reception during the visit, expressing admiration about the progress being experienced by the UAE.
