Iraqi ambassador in Washington , Luqman al-Faili said on Tuesday that Baghdad is in the process of owning an integrated air defense systems from the United States , noting that this step will allow Iraq to inspect Iranian cargo planes flying to Syria .
CNN U.S. network quoted a statement of Faili, briefed by " Shafaq News " that " Iraq needs a developed defensive capabilities for the inspection of flights over Iraqi territory ."
He added that "Baghdad will possess an integrated air defense systems of the United States approved by the U.S. Congress ."
He pointed out that "Iraq will continue to surprise inspections of cargo planes coming from Iran and flying over its territory on their way to Syria , thanks to the purchase of monitoring systems for air traffic from the United States .
Regional parties accuse the Iraqi government of not being serious in the inspection of aircraft coming from Iran to Syria, while stressing that Baghdad is forcing Iranian planes randomly for inspection and did not result in the seizure of weapons or military equipment so far
