Cairo – China's Hangzhou Jinjiang Group plans to establish an aluminium complex in Egypt in partnership with Saudi Arabia's Al Ajlan Group.

Spanning over 6 million square metres, the new project will be established over four phases, including an alumina plant, an aluminium smelter, a caustic soda plant, a desalination plant, and an electric generation plant, Egypt’s minister of trade and industry Amr Nassar said in a statement on Thursday.

The new plant will help narrow the gap between supply and demand in the Middle East, Nassar added, noting that total aluminium output reached 1.2 million tonnes, while the total volume of demand amounted to 10 million tonnes.
