Kuwait - Kuwait is the world's second market, after Japan, to launch the all-new 2006 duo Nissan Tiida sedan and hatchback models. Speaking to Kuwait Times after the press conference announcing the launch of the two models in Kuwait held at Marina Hotel yesterday, Richard Zreik, Marketing Manager at Nissan Middle East FZE, explained that following Kuwait the Tiida duo will hit the markets in the Gulf region (Dubai), China, the United States and Europe.
Abdulmohsen Abdulaziz Al-Babtain Company, the sole agent for Nissan Motor Company, is going to introduce the new 2006 duo Nissan Tiida sedan and hatchback models at Kuwait's six-day Motor Show, opening on Wednesday.
Responding to a KT question about Nissan's interest in the Gulf market, Zreik said: "The Gulf market is the fastest growing market today in the world. It took over China just this year."
Muneer Sawaya, General Sales Manager at Nissan Al-Babtain, disclosed for KT that the retail price for each of the duo Nissan Tiida is KD3,500.
He said, "The All-New 2006 Tiida delivers interior roominess, a high quality interior and a comfortable stress-free environment at an economic price tag," Sawaya told journalists during the press conference.
He went on saying that since November 9, Nissan Al-Babtain will be offering a new first class entrant, the 2006 Nissan Tiida, a vehicle set to transform the small car segment due to its unparalleled specification, stylish interior and exterior, powerful performance and newly-developed technology, which surely distance it from the competition."
According to Sawaya, small cars are now the fastest-growing sector of the Gulf market, topping 128,000 unit sales last year and 40 per cent of total passenger car sales. "Consequently Nissan expects a great market opportunity, with hopes for the Tiida to be number one in the small car segment due to its premium quality and elegant design," Sawaya concluded.
In his words the Tiida sedan and hatchback became instant best sellers when first introduced in their homeland of Japan last year, "proving that automotive rules can be broken by creating a small car that has the space, comfort, luxury of a full-size upper-end sedan."
The specifications of the Tiida feature a big interior in a small car. Both the Tiida hatchback and sedan also feature large cargo areas, suitable for owners with highly active lives.
In the two models' presentation to the media Zreik stressed on Tiida's advanced exterior design and resembling a mirror-like finish provided by Nissan's Image Clarity Steel Sheet - a process using no fewer than four different coats.
When it comes to the car's interior, the cabin provides 18 per cent more knee room and seven per cent more interior length than Tiida's nearest class competitor.
Under the hood, from Nissan said, a newly developed engine creates weight savings, power increase, and noise reduction. The1.6-litre HR16 couples to five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, producing 118 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 17kg-m of torque at 4,000 rpm.
With only 7.0L/100 km, Tiida's launch coincides with a growing market shift towards more fuel economic cars. Zreik told Kuwait Times that the two models' engine gives fuel economy at a time when "we need the fuel economy".
Driving stability, ride comfort and safety were the three issues that journalists at the press conference were concerned with. Nissan provided the answers saying that Nissan's reputation for engineered safety is reflected in the Tiida body design, where key parts of the body absorb the force of a collision and active head restraints on the front seats and SRS dual airbags help prevent injury.
Tiida is now being produced for North America, China, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, South Africa and India. From Nissan Middle East are confident they have a winner on their hands, as the "Tiida, the most exciting small car product to reach Middle East markets, starts with a clear lead over rivals in terms of spaciousness, comfort, style and value for money."
