Abu Dhabi, 30 Nov. 2010 (WAM): The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has completed the widening of Bani Yas Al Heelieh widening project extending 14.63 km comprising the construction of a subway linking Al Shamkha East and Al Shamkha West in a sector extending 775 meters. The project also includes full lighting of several vital projects currently under construction, improvement of roads and provision of sophisticated services at residential areas in the context of the Municipalitys efforts to keep pace with the urbanization drive in the Emirate and meet the requirements of the demographic expansion.

The project works include linking Abu Dhabi Al Ain Road with Abu Dhabi Suwaihan Road in order to ensure a smooth traffic flow between Al Falah, Al Shamkhah, Al Maazzaz, Al Shawamekh and Bani Yas residential districts. It also includes the construction of an interchange on Suwaihan Road in parallel line with Suwaihan Road to ease the crossing towards Bani Yas Graveyard while protecting the utility, gas and petrol lines in the area.

The project works also comprise replacing the High Voltage electrical cables at the right hand side of the road by underground cables to avoid posing any risk to road users, besides lighting the graveyard.

They also include refurbishing and dualling the Graveyard Road and fitting it with a median as well as protective fencing to curb accidental crossing or driving in the opposite direction, besides improving the vertical and horizontal curves at the Graveyard Road; which will help improve the visibility range and minimize accidents.

It is noteworthy that Abu Dhabi city has completed several vital road and bridge projects in various parts of the Emirate and has recently opened Sheikh Zayed Bridge and Al Mafraq Bridge. The Municipality is also working on other projects, such as Al Salam Street, which will ensure a smooth traffic flow, minimize traffic congestions on main streets and ensure safe crossing for all road users in a highly efficient manner. These achievements come in the context of the Municipalitys efforts to improve the lifestyle of the city, push the economic & social drive, and improve the quality of services in the capital; which is part of a comprehensive strategy to keep pace with the urbanization & development and cope with the exponential growth seen by the Emirate.
