Manama/Abu Dhabi: The Gulf Cooperation Council interior ministers picked the UAE capital as the headquarters for a new Gulf police force at a meeting on Wednesday.
“Abu Dhabi was chosen based on its reputation on having the best infrastructure and technologically advanced security departments,” an Abu Dhabi government source told Gulf News. “GCCPOL will work with ministries across the GCC and with the Interpol in creating an administration capable of analysing and following-up up with information and checking the validity of evidence,” he added.
The ministers also agreed to set up a permanent GCC bureau at the United Nations in the Austrian capital Vienna led by Oman, Bahraini and Kuwaiti media reported.
“The citizens of the GCC are looking forward to both the security and stability as the region is witnessing changes and challenges that could have a negative impact on their countries,” Shaikh Mohammad Al Khalid, the Kuwaiti interior minister, said.
