Production units' investment has grown nine-fold in industrial townships during the tenures of the ninth and tenth governments (since 2005), said director general of Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organization (SIIPO).
Fakhrollah Molaei said that job generation has increased by 103 percent across industrial townships, IRNA reported.
He added that the number of workers in industrial townships has surpassed 591,816 by June 21, 2012, from 291,104 in 2005.
The official also said that proper infrastructural facilities such as water, electricity, and gas have been established across the industrial townships during the past seven years.
"About 91 industrials townships were connected to gas network in 2005. This is while the figure has reached 353 by June 21, 2012," he said.
In August, Molaei said some 16,125 units became operational in the industrial parks and zones during the March 2006 to June 2012 period.
He said more than 35,150 agreements have been signed by SIIPO during the period.
The official said that about 8,751 hectares of land were handed over to private sector during the tenure of the ninth government (from March 2006 to March 2010) while the figure increased to 16,443 hectares during the incumbency of the tenth government.
