LAHORE, 08 July 05 (WAM)--Another batch of 86 camel kids who were trafficked to United Arab Emirates (UAE) has arrived here, while the 15 men and women accompanying them were taken to some unknown place.
UAE interior ministry officials, Major Ibrahim and Major Obaid, escorting here these kids smuggled into UAE for camel race, handed them over to Overseas Pakistanis Foundation. These children were medically examined at the airport and following completion of necessary documentations by FIA, they were taken out of the airport in high security after about four hours. The children were finally handed over to Punjab chief minister's advisor Dr. Faiza, who took them with her from the airport.Last May, UAE signed agreement with UNCEF to rehabilitate and reintegrate ex-child jockeys into their original societies.
The UAE reiterated in the agreement its commitment to improve conditions of child camel jockeys out of its keenness to maintain that traditional sports free of any suspicious practices that may harm reputation of the country and its people.
