Tijuana, Mexico, April 5th, 2010 (WAM) -- A major 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck near the Mexico-California border on Sunday, killing at least one person.
Alfredo Escobedo, Director of Baja California State Civil Protection, said that a particular house was damaged due to the earthquake, people have been trapped in elevators, retaining walls collapsed in some places and electricity was out in several parts of the state. The Mexico Earthquake tremors could be felt as far away as Los Angeles and Nevada. The relatively shallow quake was centered in a lightly populated area in northeastern Baja California near the city of Mexicali on the U.S. border. A series of aftershocks rocked the area around the epicenter, 10 Kilometres to the southeast of Mexicali and close to the town of Guadalupe Victoria for several hours.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2010.
