Qazvin - Some five million meters of carpets are woven in Iran each year by 1,200,000 weavers. Announcing this, deputy head of Iran's National Carpet Center, Mohammad Reza Abedi told reporters on the sidelines of the Second Hand-Woven Carpet Festival that 80 percent of the amount are exported while the rest used inside Iran.
Referring to Iran's high position in the field of carpet production, he noted that currently, European countries, especially Germany, the US and Persian Gulf littoral states are considered the best markets for Persian carpet.
Some 60 percent of Iranian carpets are exported to the US and European countries, he said, adding that the main rivals of Iran in the field are India, Pakistan, China and Nepal.
However, Persian carpet is unique in artistic terms, he concluded.
