AMMAN The Social Security Corporation (SSC) on Tuesday said that the number of women who have benefitted from the maternity insurance programme has reached 57,074, including 957 non-Jordanian women, at a cost of JD62 million.

In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, SSC Spokesperson Musa Subaihi said that maternity insurance entails paying women once the baby is born a lump sum equivalent to their salary to cover their 10-week maternity leave.

Women are entitled to receive maternity benefits if they have a social insurance record of no less than six successive months through their work in the private sector, he added.

The programme was established to encourage business owners to hire more women and reduce unemployment among Jordanian women.
