SULAIMANIYA: Northern Iraqi Kurdistan city of Sulaimaniya has witnessed on Friday the beginning of a campaign to plant 5 million trees in different parts of Kurdistan Region, under the auspices of its Premier Barham Saleh, along with the increasing of the areas of forests that were harmed during the past two decades, the Kurdistan Electronic site reported.
"The campaign to plant 5 million trees, began in Sualianiya city Friday, under auspices of Premier Saleh and attendance of several ministers and the Governor of Sulaimaniya, under the slogan 'Green Kurdistan, a Protected Environment," the site reported.
Saleh said in a speech, during his attendance of the occasion, said: "We are planting these trees at this place, where we had laid the corner stone for the tourist 'Hawari Shar,' on 17/3/2004," confirming that "Sulaimaniya shall witness a beautiful site that shall share in the achievement of a good environment."
He pointed out that the trees planting campaign in Kurdistan had began in Makhmour township last week and in Sulaimaniya today (Friday), where we hope that everybody would contribute in the campaign to beautify Sulamaniya and the whole of Kurdistan.
