Amman - Twelve Arab countries will take part in the 6th Arab Conference on Geographical Names which will be held by the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center (RJGC) in Amman during July 10-13.

Participants will discuss difficulties facing the implementation of the unified Arab system for Romanization or converting Arabic letters into Latin.

Director General of the RJGC Brigadier Awni Khasawneh told Petra that the conference aims at making necessary amendments to the system and solving problems resulting from the pronunciation of some Arabic letters.

He said that the conference will also discuss geographical terms, activities of Arab committees for geographical names in 2011 and their importance in all aspects of life.

Countries taking part in the conference include Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Libya, Kuwait, Qatar, Algeria, the UAE, Tunisia, Oman, Palestine in addition to Jordan.
