Organisers on the lookout for designers who can create the next big craze

Dubai: Expo 2020 Dubai is on the lookout for designers of gadgets, gizmos and games who can create the next big craze.

The Expo organiser has launched a worldwide search for the brains behind the newest cool gadgets, and both traditional and digital games.

“We want to wow and delight our visitors with take-home keepsakes that could only come from a World’s Expo,” said Gillian Hamburger, senior vice-president, Commercial, at the Expo 2020 body.

“Our ambition is to offer a product range that people will want to buy, not only because they are offered by Expo 2020 but because the items are unexpected, unique and innovative.”

In addition to being fun and different, the organisers say the products must also fit the core Expo themes: opportunity, mobility and sustainability.

Global market intelligence firm Newzoo estimates the mobile (tablet and phone), PC and console gaming industry alone will see 2.2 billion gamers across the globe generate a predicted $108.9 billion (Dh399.98 billion) in game revenues in 2017 — 7.8 per cent more than 2016.

The Expo body pointed out in a press statement that past World Expos oversaw the first public appearances of the telephone (in 1876). the television (1939), the mobile phone (1970) and the humanoid robot (2005).
