Mumbai: Films can play an important role in exposing and eliminating the menace of terrorism and radicalism, said Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Addressing a Global Film Tourism Conclave, organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mumbai, Naqvi said the Indian film industry has been playing a significant role in getting rid of various social ills, creating an atmosphere conducive to social harmony and also help in bringing social reforms. This showed that Indian films have succeeded in delivering effective messages on social, cultural and reformist issues.

He also commented on how various locations of India have a special attraction for film makers around the world. India is geographically, socially and culturally a rich and beautiful country. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to North-East states, beautiful locations attract not only domestic but also foreign film makers to shoot their movies here.

Naqvi informed that the Central Government and various state governments encourage film makers of the country and the world to make film in these sought-after locations. We should provide information to the entire world about these promotional programmes, he added.

He emphatically said India had all the facilities, possibilities and resources to become the worlds film tourism hub and that organisations such as the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry can play an important role in encouraging these possibilities.

India is one of the few countries in the world where the film sector has an industry status, he said.

Apart from the film fraternity, those who attended the conclave included Zigmund Bertok, Ambassador of Slovak Republic, Radu Dobre, Romanian ambassador and Jaykumar Rawal, Maharashtra Minister of Tourism.
