Knowledge Management Department of Dubai Municipality has recently launched a service to destroy unwanted documents and records where the organisational units of municipality will implement plans to maintain, destroy and fix estimated lifetime of files and records for keeping or destruction. This was stated by Abdulla Abdul Rahman, Director of Knowledge Management Department.

"As per new system the files and records will be transferred to Document Control Unit to destroy it after entering the data in the file follow-up system," Abdulla said.

"The destruction mechanism will be working through the transfer of uncategorized papers, magazines, leaflets, brochures and documents, which are not included under destruction plan, to the Records Management Unit and will be destroyed by a company in the field of recycling as per agreement. Some of the files and records will be transferred to certain government authorities such as Dewan and Ministry of Education and will be destroyed in coordination with the KM Dept through an official order," he added.  

Meanwhile, the weight of papers will be calculated and its value will be paid by the company and deposited in the account of civic body in coordination with financial department.

It is remarkable that 104250 ton of papers valued at 9138 dhs were destroyed during 2010 and 2011 in addition to 32610 office files, certificates and different types of books.
