In Celebration of World Health Day

Dubai, April 12, 2011. Students, faculty and staff at the American University in Dubai (AUD) recently celebrated World Health Day with activities organized by the AUD Health Center. The University's community assembled throughout the day to learn about the associated risks of an unhealthy lifestyle and the protective methods applied for a better and healthier living.

Licensed physicians, practitioners and specialists from Dubai Bone and Joint Center and Dr. Nicholas & ASP Clinic were on campus to conduct checkups and evaluations and promote community wellbeing, in addition to representatives from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) were also present to raise awareness on safe driving techniques and pedestrian-related precautionary measures.

On the importance of organizing such awareness activities, Ms. Nelly Halabi, Director of the AUD Health Center, comments:

"Our aim is to trigger the wellbeing of the youth by engaging them in awareness activities to promote a healthier and safer lifestyle. Through our annual celebration of the World Health Day, this fine cause has become a precedent on the nature of activities organized by AUD on a regular basis to promote the welfare of its community."

Moreover, students, faculty and staff members familiarized themselves with the lung function and non-invasive blood oxygen saturation via the event's collaterals underwent Body Mass Index (BMI) checkups, and body fat evaluations, dental checkups, vision testing, cholesterol and blood sugar tests, as well as podiatrist, smoking cessation and nutrition consultations.
