DQG and DEWA Suhour Meet on Innovation to offer guidelines for business success

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai Quality Group 's Ideas.Arabia Subgroup hosted a Suhour Seminar Meeting on Tuesday, August 16 at the Address Downtown Dubai. It was sponsored by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( DEWA ).

The seminar aimed to highlight the critical need to position a company to face and take advantage of the winds of globalisation and change, now blowing furiously in all corners of the world. Today, more and more organizations are looking to innovate their business model to find new ways of offering value that outshine the competition and deliver high returns.

Business Model Innovation (BMI), the topic of the seminar, refers to the creation or reinvention of a business. Though innovation is more often seen in the form of a new product or service offering, a business model innovation results in an entirely different type of company that competes not only on the value proposition of its offerings, but aligns its profit formula, resources and processes to enhance that value proposition, capture new market segments and alienate competitors.

Kamal Hassan, President and CEO, Innovation 360 Institute, was the keynote speaker on the occasion. He spoke about BMI and touched upon the topics of the processes of business model design and innovation. He also threw light on key components of business model innovation and explained the features that go to create an organizational culture. Illustrating his talk with popular business models from different industries, Hassan also provided a toolkit for business model design and innovation.

According to him, "Every organization should question on a regular basis the who, what and how of their current approach to business, and ask if there is a better way to offer value to customers. Most likely the answer will be yes. BMI is a way to redefine the company and its offerings to give customers more of what they want, as well as attract new customers from new markets."

Hassan also pointed out: "The data shows that companies which undergo BMI see operational margin growth of more than five times that of competitors who only practice product or service innovation."

Abdul Qader Obaid Ali, Chairman, Ideas.Arabia Subgroup, explained that the design of your business model determines how you create and deliver value to your customers. "Business organizations now function from the base upwards." He pointed out that this major change has come about due to the communications revolution, which makes it possible for the top management to listen to the suggestions from the floor, and incorporate them into the corporate body. This is an instance of how business organizations have adapted to innovation for more efficiency, he added.
