Dubai, UAE, March 14, 2011: The UAE Ministry of Education has conferred an award on Mr. Sunny Varkey, Chairman of GEMS Education in recognition of his significant contribution in developing education in the country.
The 'Loyalty Day' is organized by the Ministry to acknowledge its strategic partners and officials who compliment the ministry's initiatives in pioneering reforms in the education sector. This year two individuals outside the ministry were rewarded for their individual contributions in the field of education and also supporting the ministry's efforts.
This year, the special award is conferred on Mr. Varkey recognizing his contribution and support of the education sector in Dubai and the UAE. Mr Varkey has played an important role in introducing a range of different curriculum schools into the UAE to facilitate the multi cultural community who resides here. He has introduced the latest teaching and learning practices from around the world.
Mr. Varkey received the award from H. E. Humaid Al Qutami, Minister of Education.
Mr Varkey said he was honored to receive the award and praised the UAE Government, through the Ministry of Education, for its vision in establishing both Dubai and the UAE as a premier global knowledge economy hub in the Middle East.
Mr Varkey said, "GEMS Education is a Dubai born brand and we take great pride, as we continue to expand our business on the international arena, in promoting Dubai and the UAE as a sought-after global education destination. It is because of the Governments vision to establish world class infrastructure, which includes schools within the education sector that companies from all over the world choose to base their Middle East operations in Dubai."
