Shurooq networks with Emirati graduates from British universities

Sharjah, 12th February 2015

The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has concluded its successful participation in the second edition of the UAE-UK Pioneers Forum, which took place on February 6th and 7th at the Park Plaza Hotel in London, UK.

Held around the theme: "Innovation in the UAE", the Pioneers Forum 2015 represented a significant opportunity for international businesses operating in the UAE to engage with ambitious and talented Emirati students in the United Kingdom.

Speaking about participation, Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer of Shurooq, said: "The forum was an invaluable platform to connect with talented Emirati graduates from top British universities and attract them to join the Authority's highly professional team. Shurooq, which continues to act as one of the major drivers in the emirate of Sharjah's growth, made the best use of this opportunity to showcase the many exciting opportunities that it has to offer, as well as to highlight its ambitious plans for our country's business growth and prosperity in the 21st century and beyond."

The forum, which opened its doors to attendees on Saturday, 7th February, in the Park Plaza exhibition space, commenced with an opening ceremony dinner hosted by the UAE Ambassador to the UK, on Friday, 6th February, providing an excellent opportunity for business representatives to network and meet UAE luminaries.

The forum featured a series of panel discussions by exhibitors and talks by experts and guest speakers, followed by a discussion with students.

Attended by representatives of nearly 30 companies, Shurooq participated with a special stand, where its representatives met and networked with Emirati graduates to update them about available job opportunities.

Al Qaseer said: "The forum offered us an ideal platform to network with young and talented Emirati minds and encourage them to join our team, so as to give them the opportunity to participate in the development of their country and nourish their spirit of innovation by working in national agencies."

The forum hosted guest speakers from different disciplines who talked about innovation, highlighting the positive image of the UAE as the ideal place for young and ambitious graduates to innovate and excel.

Shurooq's COO went on to emphasise that the Authority's participation forms part of its long-term Emiratisation efforts, to nurture young Emirati talent and encourage them to join the local job market.

"Inspired by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, we strongly believe in investing in young minds and talents by fostering their creativity, skills, entrepreneurial spirit and appetite for innovation, to build a better future for our country," Al Qaseer said.

"We are committed to developing the sustainability of the Emirate's growth, and believe the only way to achieve this is by investing in the human capital of our youth," he added.

Shurooq also took part in a number of panel discussions to network with other representatives and exhibitors and exchange ideas on how innovation is practiced in their business agencies.

Shurooq was established in 2009 with the aim of achieving social, cultural, environmental and economic development on the basis of Sharjah's distinct Arab and Islamic identity, and to encourage investment by adopting the best international standards in providing quality services that help attract investors from the region and the world.

Shurooq's key mission is to provide facilities and incentives to help overcome obstacles facing investment activities in the emirate, evaluate investment-related infrastructure projects, and lay down the necessary plans to complete such projects.

In recognition of its overall accomplishments, Shurooq was named the 2013 and 2014 FDI Agency of the Year in the MENA region, in the European's Global Banking and Finance Awards.
