Muscat - H E Yahya al Jabri, chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (Sezad), has signed an agreement with Combined Group Contracting Co (CGCC) for the fourth package of Port of Duqm involving the construction of a government berth.

The project is estimated to cost RO55.4mn. Implementation is set to take 30 months from the date of awarding the contract, with an additional thirty days set apart for preparations, a Sezad statement said on Wednesday.

Chairman Abdulrahman Mousa al Marouf signed the agreement on behalf of CGCC, which is listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange.

The new berth, which will be the first implemented in Oman to serve government agencies, would have a total length of 980m. It will be allocated to number of government entities as well as for fast ferries, a press release said on Wednesday.

The government berth will be a key security feature at the port. It will provide readiness to manage logistics operations for official entities and the security of the port and the entire special zone.

The project will include construction of buildings, roads, facilities and utilities necessary for the operation of the berth. The infrastructure works include execution of electrical, potable water, telecommunications and sewer networks.
