MUSCAT:  Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism said that new tourism projects which are implemented in Salalah this year -- including the development of Al Dahaleez beach and the Ateen oasis -- will contribute largely towards boosting tourism particularly during the khareef season. In an interview with Oman daily, sister publication of the Observer Al Mehrzi said that the number of visitors to Dhofar Governorate is expected to increase in this year's khareef season due to disturbances taking place in the region.  On the other side, internal tourism is on the rise and constituted 75 per cent of the visitors to Dhofar in last year's khareef.

The minister of tourism expressed satisfaction over the ability of tourism infrastructure in Dhofar to meet the demands of visitors. There might be a problem of shooting rentals but the Public Authority for Consumer Protection will play a role in controlling the rentals. The problem with the rental of houses will disappear as soon as the ministry launches its new service dubbed the Hospitality Houses be they permanent or seasonal with the ministry.
