KUWAIT: The Kuwait Science Fair (KSF), largest science competition held in Kuwait, yesterday announced that the winners of the 2010/2011 competition will be awarded in this year's finale on March 19, under the Minister of Oil, Information and Chairman of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Now in its third run, the Kuwait Science Fair is a nation-wide competition founded and managed by ExxonMobil Kuwait and Kuwait Energy.
One hundred scientific innovations and projects will be assessed from March 16 till the evening of March 19 by a panel of six judges comprising doctors, engineers and science experts from renowned companies across Kuwait.
Students from over 86 public and private schools are competing for a chance to win the first place grand prize of a full scholarship to the American University of Kuwait (AUK), an international internship at Schlumberger global oilfields services company, KD 750 in cash, KD 100 in vouchers, the first place trophy, and two certificates honoring their participation and ranking.
The third chapter of the Kuwait Science Fair was launched in October 2010 with over 180 student participants that registered individually and in groups. The 'Best 100' students were qualified in December 2010 to continue developing their ideas in the second phase of the competition; the experimental phase. The top ten winners will be revealed during the awards ceremony.
The Kuwait Science Fair is held annually under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and supported by the US Ambassador to Kuwait, Deborah Jones, in her honorary role as a 'Chief Ambassador' for the competition.
The Kuwait Science Fair Managing Director, Aseel Al-Turkait said, "Students continue to surprise us with their great ideas, and the effort and dedication they put in their projects. The race is tight, and no matter what the results are, Kuwait's young scientists should be proud of their achievements, and we encourage them to pursue careers in math and science fields.
Second and third places winners will also receive prizes. The second place winner will be awarded with an internship at Schlumberger and KD 500 in cash, two certificates honoring their participation and ranking, KD 100 in vouchers, and the second place trophy. The third place winner will be awarded with KD 350 in cash, two certificates honoring their participation and ranking, KD 100 in vouchers, and the third place trophy.
