Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman inaugurated a SR36 million second phase of the Madinah Industrial City on Wednesday.

Commerce and Industry Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, chairman of the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technological Zones, was also present on the occasion.

The prince also viewed a video presentation of the project. New factories in the city have been designed taking full care of the needs of environmental protection.

The second phase, which targets to establish 110 factories, already has completed the construction of 32 factories. They include the National Company for Escalators, which is the first escalator factory in the Kingdom, the Madinah Network for Cement Products Co., the Farus Sekurit Glass Co. and the Taiba Carpets Co.
The prince was briefed on the products and methods of operations of the newly launched companies after he cut a ribbon to mark their formal opening, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The industrial city sprawls over an area of 10 million square meters with a capacity to establish 210 factories.

Authorities also plan to acquire 20 million square meters of land with the aim of constructing more factories apart from an integrated residential facility.

The first phase of the industrial city was designed for factories of food, medicine and paper with an allocation of 631,200 square meters.

The third phase is planned to have an area of 1.6 million square meters.

In another development, the prince is scheduled to open an Arab philately exhibition in Madinah on Sunday.

Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology Muhammad Mullah will also attend the opening ceremony of the Third Arab Postal Stamp Expo to be hosted at the Al-Rashid Mall Complex.
