CAIRO, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Egypt's parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of General Mohamed Ali El- Sheikh as Minister of Supply after the resignation of Khaled Hanafi last month, the state news agency said.

Hanafi resigned on August 25 amid a high-profile corruption probe into whether millions of dollars intended to subsidise farmers were used to purchase wheat that did not exist.

The Ministry of Supplies is in charge of Egypt's food subsidy programme.
