Cairo, Egypt - H.E. Eng. Tarek Al Mola, Minister of Petroleum, and Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone, recently visited DP World Sokhna, as part of a tour to inspect the gas handling facility at the port and latest developments. Ajay Singh, CEO of DP World Sokhna, and company officials welcomed the delegation and outlined the latest plans for the port which is strategically located on the important East-West trade route below the southern entrance to the Suez Canal and handles cargo transiting through one of the world's busiest commercial waterways.

Commenting on the visit, Mr. Singh said: “We are creating sustainable value at DP World Sokhna through service and excellence and our initiatives to develop the industry through public and private sector partnerships has contributed to the economic growth of the country. Our petroleum product handling facility saw total gas volume of 13.0 million metric tonnes since 2015 to date and we are grateful to Minister Al Mola and Admiral Mamish for their continuous support.”

Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of Suez Canal Authority, Chairman of Suez Canal Economic Zone, said:“DP World Sokhna has made huge efforts and tangible progress in using the latest technology in ports, shipping and container handling. The cooperation between the Economic Zone and DP World will raise the classification of SCzone among the global economic zones. Signing a contract with DP World, a global trade, to set up a new a joint venture company to develop the planned economic zone near the Suez Canal, will achieve success for both sides and create job opportunities for the Egyptians."

Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, asserted that Egypt is implementing an integrated plan of increasing and developing infrastructure, which will pave the way for a strong economic boost, as well as achieve sustainability. He pointed out that the current ports development is one of the main pillars of the plan especially that ports are a pivotal and convergence points for foreign trade. In addition, the ports support the national project of transforming Egypt into a regional hub for the trade and exchange of energy, petroleum products and natural gas.
