Civic body focuses on food safety in collaboration with private sector

Foot control department of Dubai municipality participates in the third session of Dubai Food Chain Conference 2012, which is organized by Climate Control Magazine of CPI Industry during 22-23 May 2012 in The Address Dubai Marina.
The conference under the theme 'I care about food safety' is aimed at educating the public and food establishments about the safety measures to be taken care of regarding the 'farm to table' processes of food.
Food safety experts from Dubai municipality, different government and private organizations and media persons have been effectively taking part in the two-day conference.
Bobby Krishna, Senior Food Studies and Surveys Officer, Food Control Department, Dubai Municipality has handled the presentation on ' The Journey of Food' (country best practices, farm to fork) highlighting the priorities, legislation, challenges, responses, success stories, spotlighting meat, seafood, dairy, fruits and vegetables.
'We cooperate with such initiatives organized by private sector as the civic body is keen to ensure the food safety in the emirate of Dubai with the cooperation of food establishments,' Bobby said.
'It is our obligation to follow up the compliance of food establishments with the food safety requirements in place as approved by the department, he added.
Asia Abdul Wahab Al Raeesi, Head of the Studies and Food Planning Section and Bashir Hassan Yousif, Food Safety Expert also represented the civic body in the discussions and presentations throughout the conference.
Important topics such as quality assurance, indispensable nature of microbiological control in retail and catering, food firms and culture change, education, awareness, communicating to the refrigeration industry, end-user perspectives on food safety, nutrition, and profitability; technical point of view, reliability of refrigeration equipment, energy efficiency measures without compromising on food safety, installation practice and support from manufactures, knowledge transfer to end-users, after -sales service and availability of spare parts, the impact of lighting on display cases on food products ... etc are discussed in the first day.
The second day of conference will be focussing on presentations by the representatives of participating organisations and companies on several relevant subjects, in which Bobby Krishna will give a presentation at 2.pm on 'Retailer related issues on food safety incidents and violations' and Basheer Hassan will be presenting the topic 'Traders related issues on food safety incidents and violations'. In addition, Asia Abdul Wahab will lead a discussion on 'Setting the right approach to enhance food safety and strategic plan on food safety by Dubai Municipality.
