Dubai, 27 January 2015: The Business Excellence Department (BED) in the Department of Economic Department (DED), Dubai recently hosted an open seminar to help businesses and organisations benchmark their operational and service practices against the best in the world and enable them to participate in the Business Excellence Awards of DED.

The seminar, first in a series of joint initiatives being rolled out under the 'EBM Benchmarking Partners' programme of BED and Emirates Business Management International Consultants, a Dubai-based professional services company, was attended by over 100 representatives of the business community including potential applicants to the Business Excellence Awards.

The 'EBM Benchmarking Partners' programme, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region, aims to promote sharing of best practices among businesses and organisations and encourage participants in the Business Excellence Awards to benchmark their practices against a set of performance indicators, related to Customers, People, Society and Business.

The Business Excellence Awards, which comprises the Dubai Quality Award (DQA), Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA) and the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme (DSES) has grown to be the premier indicator of operational and service excellence in the emirate's business sector.

"Excellence is an ongoing process and organisations striving to maintain optimal performance levels should stay focused on continuous improvement and informed of international best practices," said Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General of DED for Planning and Executive Affairs.

"The EBM Benchmarking Partners programme places members in a knowledge environment where best-in-class strategies and practices are shared for the sake of organisational development and the larger interest of the economy," added Ibrahim.

"The EBM Benchmarking Partners programme is a milestone in the ongoing journey of Business Excellence Awards. The programme will further help the Awards and its participants stay in tune with the most contemporary practices in quality and excellence," commented Mohammed Bushanain, Executive Director of Corporate Quality & Management Excellence at DED.

EBM Benchmarking Partners is a valuable source of readymade data and information on industry averages and outstanding performance. Member organisations also share their own data on relevant parameters thus creating a repository of accurate benchmarking data, which has been one of the lowest scoring areas in the Business Excellence Awards earlier.  The data will also be made available online in specific formats while maintaining confidentiality.

The programme aims to be the first point of reference for benchmarking of business performance standards. Members in the programme can set targets for continuous improvement and receive quarterly reports on their achievements.
