Secretary of Iran's Free Trade Zones Coordination Council Akbar Torkan urged Muslim states to help set up an Islamic common market.
Addressing the two-day Trade Conference of Muslim Countries on Saturday, Torkan said Iran's Free Trade Zones (FTZs) aim to facilitate trade among Muslim states, IRNA reported.
"Muslim countries should do their best to set up joint banks, use common currencies and establish common markets to ease trade among their private sectors," he said.
Kish Island in the Persian Gulf hosted the conference of Muslim scholars and traders to facilitate trade cooperation and transactions.
Some 60 Muslim traders and scholars from 20 countries, including Iran, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Britain and Afghanistan, took part in the conference.
