AMMAN - School Ranking Committee held its first meeting under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Talal Abu Ghazaleh, President of the Arab Organization for Quality Assurance in Education (AROQA) in the presence of the committee members consisting of education experts and specialists along with representatives from the Ministry of Education.

The committee formed in accordance with a letter issued by H.E. the Minister of Higher Education is tasked with setting up a comprehensive proposal for the ranking of private schools, developing the ranking standards and designing a detailed practical framework supported by accurate and systematic indicators and tools. The Committee members include representatives from private schools, competent departments at the Ministry of Education and the Private School Owners Association.

After welcoming the attendees and expressing his appreciation and pride of the members of the committee, Dr. Abu Ghazaleh stated: "The formation of the accredited committee of experts to develop a comprehensive proposal for the ranking of private schools comes in response to H.E. the Minister's of Education, Dr. Omar Al Razzaz, directives. The Minister who seeks to develop high-quality schools; the matter that will reflect positively on improving the educational outputs through the Committee of Experts chaired by H.E. Dr. Amin Mahmoud, the former Minister of Higher Education who enjoys extensive experience in this field."

The criteria for the ranking of "Schools'  should be based on digital standards because the future of education is digital education. This ranking criteria should then be transferred from private to public schools in the second phase of the project, stressed Dr. Abu Ghazaleh who underlined the fact that ranking is the basis for attaining development because each organization would be aware of its position among the competing institutions or those operating in the same sector, and therefore seek to further improve and develop its performance as per specific standards.

Dr. Abu Ghazaleh also pointed out: "AROQA is an independent organization operating under the umbrella of the League of Arab States and this would make the ranking processes unbiased." He added: "We, in AROQA in particular and TAG-Org in general strive to serve our beloved country and its economy by educating a generation who is capable of keeping pace with various educational and technical developments. It is my pleasure to offer all our organizations' experiences to be in the service of education to boost its quality and improve its outputs. It is an attitude that is consistent with His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein directives."

For his part, H.E. Dr. Amin Mahmoud stressed the importance of a ranking process for improving the quality of education and its outputs, as well as augmenting the level of competitiveness in the private education market, periodic review and continuous evaluation of education efficiency according to comprehensive standards as well as determining the number of students in high quality education categories according to school ranking.

AROQA launched the Schools Academic Accreditation Standards in accordance with international standards. Furthermore, AROQA has devoted its resources and expertise to help schools obtain  academic accreditation through the training and preparation of academic and administrative staff to implement these standards, in addition to local and international procedures to enable these schools to attain distinct levels of educational services.
