Predictive Datacentre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) System Reduces Capital Expenditure

Operational Costs of Building Cooling Systems Reduced by 10-30%

Dubai-UAE: 16 July, 2015

Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management, has successfully enhanced Department of Transport's (DoT) business model by implementing holistic and sustainable IT solutions at their new offices at Bain Al Jessrain, Abu Dhabi to modernize and streamline IT operations.

The Department of Transport, tasked with coordinated planning in all aspects of transport policy and development in Abu Dhabi, was keen to move from its reactive IT infrastructure to a more predictive model to better manage critical business requirements. To this end the IT team recognized the importance of the internal IT infrastructure which was a catalyst in impacting long term business and profitability.

DoT required reliable and sustainable enterprise information, innovative e-enablement and secure data storage with minimum downtime. The organisation needed an experienced IT solutions partner who could provide a predictive yet user-friendly datacentre model.

Schneider Electric's comprehensive implementation manages all components of a datacentre utilising an integrated and holistic approach. Upon implementation at DoT's facility, the model simplified the department's work and helped it leverage new opportunities while cutting operational costs and capital expenditure as well as improving the existing infrastructure and equipment in a sustainable way. Additionally, the suite includes a high resiliency modular UPS system, upgradable to 500 kW for each UPS, and Symmetra PX 250/500, an ultra-efficient power protection mechanism.

Ziad Youssef, Vice President of IT Business - UAE, Gulf Countries at Schneider Electric, said: "We always try to optimise energy consumption to address the world's pressing environmental concerns. With eyes fixed on this goal, our ICT offering increases energy efficiency through monitoring and analysis of carbon footprint and energy usage. Our predictive datacentre model is also designed to anticipate IT issues and provide timely solutions to ensure business continuity."

The Department of Transport has benefited from full return on investments from power savings, and now saves between 10 to 30% of the initial operational costs of building cooling systems. The new DCIM has also eliminated capital expenditure of space.

Saeed Al Ghailani, Head of Infrastructure and Telecom, Department of Transport, said: "The upgraded IT architecture allows us to focus on our core business in a strategic way. With our initial space and power challenges addressed, we are able to introduce new services requiring high ICT capability and data analysis. Compliant with internal operational policies, we are reassured that Schneider Electric will address any technical or downtime concerns 24 x 7."

DCIM enables enterprises to resolve issues concerning multi-tenancy, virtualisation, energy efficiency and Tier- 3 data security. Schneider Electric's StruxureWare for Datacentres is an integrated DCIM suite that helps businesses to manage their datacentre across multiple domains, providing an ideal balance of high availability and peak efficiency throughout the entire datacentre life-cycle.
