Evens aim at encouraging beautiful, civilized appearance of the city

Abu Dhabi: Under the kind patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, has launched Assematy initiative at Al Wathba in cooperation with strategic partners. The initiative aims at promoting communal participation, maintaining the aesthetic and civilized appearance of cities, and reducing the distorting elements in public streets and service utilities.

The initiative comes as part of the vision of Abu Dhabi municipal system aimed at improving the appearance of the city and fighting negative phenomena in the capital and its suburbs. The initiative is also intended to strengthen the ongoing efforts made by municipalities to maintain the health, safety and security of the community & environment and improve the distinguished aesthetic appearance of the cities and surrounding areas.

Mohammed Ali Al Mansouri, Director Wathba Municipal Centre said: "Assematy events at Al Wathba include launching an awareness communal campaign featuring an active community participation to maintain the aesthetic outlook of the city and eliminate all elements blemishing the overall appearance of the city, improve the city's outlook and remove all elements defacing the public appearance. The campaign is also designed to enhance the participation of all community members, raise public awareness about the implications of such phenomenon and its negative impacts on neighborhoods, and nurture a healthy environment for the whole populace. Al Mansouri defined the public distorting elements as any act, work or damage that marring the general appearance of the city, be it resulting from natural origin such as the sun, wind, humidity, dust and sand, or man-made."

"Assematy event at Al Wathba, which will runs from 5 to 29 October, addresses key topics including elements distorting roads and general appearance, as well as random farming disfiguring elements."

Al Mansouri praised the support provided by the strategic partners and their keenness to bring success to Assematy event to achieve its environmental, social and service objectives. The strategic partners include the Community Police, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Tadweer (Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi), the Health Authority, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Civil Defense, Emergency and Public Safety Division, General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Farmers Services Centre, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Red Crescent Authority, Electronic and Information Systems Center.

Al Mansouri pointed out to the programs and activities of Assematy events at Al Wathba, that include awareness workshops and home visits, in addition to a campaign to re-paint walls distorted by graffiti, visiting farms, holding a women forum and cleaning mosques in the region.

It is worth mentioning that Assematy, which is an ongoing strategic initiative launched five years ago (since 2010), is a phased initiative aimed at realizing its set objectives and accessing all target community members. It aims at removing all distorting elements in the city, increasing communal awareness as community members are a causative factor of this phenomenon and are required play a key role in eliminating this phenomenon and reducing the likelihood  of recurrence in the future. The initiative is also intended to promote the participation of all community members hand in hand with the government institutions to maintain the appearance of the city and nurture a clean, healthy environment.

Assematy is based on the strategy of continuity and sustainability so that it turns into communal values ​​and culture espoused by the community members themselves in a bid to fight the negative phenomena adversely impacting their customs, traditions, values ​​and the aesthetic appearance of their cities.  Assematy initiative is based on an integrated plan intended to rid all neighborhoods and streets of practices that contribute to distorting the civilized appearance and posing threat to security, safety, public health and environment.

The current phase is the ninth and final phase of the initiative since its inception, as it covered Al Muroor area, Al Mushrif, Al Bateen, Bani Yas, Bahia, Al Khatam and other areas and now at Al Wathba. The Municipality's community-oriented initiatives will continue to roll on in a regular manner.
