The water reserves currently amount to 895.4 million cubic meters against 1.3065 billion m3, on the same date in 2015, according to a meeting chaired, on Friday, by Saad Seddik, Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.

Given this situation, the minister called for speeding up the preparation of the file pertaining to the transfer of water from the dam El Barrak, (43 million m3) to feed other dams whose reserves declined by almost 441 million m3 compared with the last three years, as a result of the drought that hit some regions in the country.

The ministry specified that the current level of water reserves in dams amount to 994 million m3, 256.4 million m3 in the Sidi Salem dam.

The participants discussed the issue of exploitation of part of the strategic stock of Tunisia, by transferring water of Sidi El Barrak, during the period from June to September 2016 at a cost of 2.8 million dinars (MD).

They stressed the need to follow on a daily basis the hydraulic systems and the regression of the water layer in some areas due to the lack of rainfall and worsening of the phenomenon of anarchic connecting to networks, which requires finding solutions, such as achieving a medium-term study for the acquisition of a mobile station for the desalination of sea water.
