ABU DHABI- The Fatima bint Mubarak Volunteering Programme has launched the 'UAE Mobile Clinic for Womens and Childrens Health', the first initiative of its kind in the region.

This mobile clinic, supervised by a team of volunteer female doctors, will offer the best diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative services, as part of a national humanitarian giving campaign and in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's declaring 2017 as the Year of Giving.

The Mobile Clinic for Womens and Childrens Health aims to provide appropriate medical and therapeutic services, with the assistance of volunteer specialists, to residents of remote areas. It also seeks to raise the awareness of patients and educate them about diseases that affect women and children, as well as how to treat and prevent them, as well as increase awareness in government and private health institutions, educational institutions, and sports and youth centres.

The initiative strives to establish a culture of volunteerism and humanitarian giving among medical personnel, by attracting talented professionals and training and empowering them in social and medical volunteer work, both locally and internationally.

Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Women's Union, said that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, spares no efforts in caring for the health of mothers and children, and that His Highness has always placed significant importance and priority to the issues of general health, medical services and education.

She stressed that caring for women and children has the considerable attention of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, which seen a considerable improvement to the level of health services offered to women and children.

Dr. Adel Al Shameri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative, explained that the programmes offered by the mobile clinic include several educational, awareness and preventative activities that will take place in government and private health institutions, as well as in clubs, shopping centres and youth centres, such as medical examinations on the health and functions of the heart and lungs. A voluntary medical team will also offer free awareness services to thousands of citizens and residents through the clinic, which is equipped with the latest medical equipment, he added.
