- Over 800 volunteers from more than 25 companies contributed 2,100 hours during annual Give & Gain Day event

Dubai, UAE:  The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Centre for Responsible Business recently organised its annual Give & Gain Day, the largest employee volunteering event in the UAE, as part of the Engage Dubai programme.

Participating for the seventh consecutive year, ENGAGE Dubai mobilised employees to volunteer during work hours in schools, universities, local charities and community group, to make a real difference in their societies.

Over 800 volunteers from more than 25 companies contributed a total of 2,100 work hours to community projects between May 14th and 18th, and the event paired companies with local non-profit partners, projects and initiatives.

Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, said: "This initiative falls in line with Dubai Chamber’s objectives to support the UAE’s Year of Giving and promote a culture of social responsibility and volunteerism within the local business community. Volunteering is the cornerstone of corporate social responsibility, and a very effective way of encouraging companies to engage with their communities and make a positive contribution.”

During Give & Gain Day 2017, participants contributed to more than 48 projects and activities which included cooking, arts and crafts and jewellery making workshops with students, reading sessions at local schools, packaging and delivering gifts for labour camps, study tours for University and high school students, care packages for the seafarers, and visits to Visit to Elderly Center Ajman, and blood donation.

More than 18 community institutions participated in the initiative, including Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities, Manzil, Mawaheb from Beautiful People, Rising Sun Center for Special Needs, and Room to Read.

Participating companies included du, Michelin, Blue LLC, Dulsco, DP World, Al Futtaim Carillion, NMC Trading, GE, Mashreq, among many others representing a variety of sectors.

Launched in 2008 by Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business, ENGAGE Dubai is an international programme which brings together businesses and community organisations in Dubai to increase the quality and amount of employee community engagement in their local communities. The programme currently has 128 corporate members and 40 community partners.
