AMMAN - The telecommunications sector’s Special Crisis Committee on Tuesday discussed providing coverage for quarantine sites intended for expatriates who are scheduled to return to the Kingdom following a recent government decision.

Chief Commissioner of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) Ghazi Jbour met with representatives of the telecommunications companies Zain, Orange and Umniah to make arrangements for the communications coverage, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Jbour said that 23,000 people are registered to return to Jordan, pointing out that most of them will be quarantined in the Dead Sea area, while 1,500 people will be quarantined at the Al Omari Border Crossing.

The TRC has coordinated with the three telecommunications companies to allow quarantined individuals to communicate with their families and to allow students to continue their online education.

Jbour pointed out that the commission will monitor the performance of communication networks on an ongoing basis, adding that companies will submit periodic reports on network performance.
