ALGIERS - Algerian Sonatrach Company on Sunday launched the first round of talks with the US oil company (Chevron) on exploiting hydrocarbon projects in Algeria.

In a statement, Sonatrach said that after ExxonMobil Company, it was the turn of Chevron, the second American oil company, to show interest in the Algerian mining field and seek to develop several production projects.

According to the statement, a meeting was held in Houston on the sidelines of the Algerian-American Energy Forum and the two sides agreed to meet in Algiers next month to discuss the details of the projects.

"The second petroleum institution in the US is interested in the exploitation and production of traditional and non-traditional resources," it added.

Sonatrach also held another meeting with ExxonMobil, which hopes to work intensively in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Algeria.

The talks focused on the technical and economic aspects of the projects proposed by ExxonMobil, known as the Dean of the major oil companies.

ExxonMobil, one of the world's largest publicly traded energy providers and chemical manufacturers, develops and applies next-generation technologies to safely and responsibly meet the world's growing needs for energy and high-quality chemical products. (end) mr.aa
