Riyadh –  Saudi Arabia has awarded a 25-year build-own-operate (BOO) deal to Almar Water, a subsidiary of Abdul Latif Jameel, to establish a desalination plant with investments surpassing $600 million (SAR 2.25 billion) in Shuqaiq city.

Providing around 700 job opportunities in the area, the new facility will produce around 450,000 cubic metres of water per day, a statement on Monday indicated.

Almar Water firm further noted that the facility would offer services to more than 1.8 million citizens

The plant’s construction is slated for completion during the fourth quarter of 2021, the water firm said.

It is worth noting that Abdul Latif Jameel Commercial Development Company, Acciona Agua, Marubeni Corporation, and Rawafid Alhadarah Holding Co. have signed a deal to purchase water from the plant once it is completed.

“Innovative energy-intensive water schemes are essential to meeting the rising demand of our region and the world’s growing population for water,” Abdul Latif Jameel’s deputy president and vice chairman Fady M Jameel stated.
