Dubai-based Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) said on Thursday that it is upgrading and expanding the capacity of its existing district cooling plant in the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) area.

The company said in a statement that it is expanding the existing plant's total capacity by 10,000 Refrigeration Tonnes (RT) to 70,000 RT in order to meet the demand from new developments in the area, such as the One JBR Hotel, the Address Residences Jumeirah Resort and Spa and Blue Waters project.

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said the renovation process is part of a prescheduled plan to develop the infrastructure of the company's plants across Dubai.

Empower is aiming to modernise the infrastructure of all 79 district cooling plants with new generation systems, the statement noted.

Constructed in 2005, the JBR district cooling plant underwent its first major renovation in 2015.
