Abu Dhabi Health Data Services is established as part of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DOH) and Injazat Data Systems, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company.

Malaffi, will enable healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals and government authorities across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to safely and securely access and share patients’ medical information, to deliver better healthcare quality and improve overall patient outcomes. Malaffi will connect more than 2,000 public and private healthcare providers in Abu Dhabi, that provide healthcare services for more than 3 million people within the Emirate, revolutionizing the delivery of healthcare.

Mediclinic Middle East and NMC Healthcare, are now part of the group of Malaffi Participants, together with SEHA (Abu Dhabi Health Services Company), Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, Healthpoint, United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical) group and Oasis Hospital, that joined Malaffi in December last year. Collectively, these organizations own and operate 342 clinics and 28 hospitals, which represent 76% of all hospital beds, as well as 57% of all hospital episodes in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi1.

H.E Mohammed Hamad Al Hameli, Undersecretary of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, said: “We are delighted that more health facilities are joining Malaffi, particularly some of the largest healthcare providers operating in the Emirate. We look forward to reaping the benefits of the Malaffi system in the near future by employing health data to develop policies and robust healthcare programs, as well as enabling healthcare professionals to make informed decisions based on detailed patient records. Furthermore, the Malaffi system will contribute to enhancing the efficiency and availability of health services to the residents of the Emirate by reducing redundant testing, as well as the number of repeat hospital visits.”

“The joining of Mediclinic Middle East and NMC Healthcare to Malaffi is an important milestone, and a testament to their dedication to improving the quality of care and patient outcomes, not only for their patients, but for everyone in Abu Dhabi. The value of a Health Information Exchange Platform exponentially increases with the amount of collated information. Once these current Malaffi Participants implement the Platform later this year, Malaffi will then boast access to data relating to more than half of Abu Dhabi’s patient hospital episodes. This is a very solid foundation for Malaffi, and presents a strong driver for the clinical adoption,” said Atif Al Braiki, Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Health Data Services.

“Mediclinic Middle East is happy to support and join Malaffi, as a strategic priority of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi. Following its implementation, the people of Abu Dhabi will benefit from a safer and more efficient healthcare system through the resulting reduction in medication errors and duplicate tests, as well as the introduction of emirate-wide health initiatives made possible by the centralisation of such levels of information,” said Mr. David Hadley, CEO of Mediclinic Middle East.

“As the single largest private sector healthcare provider in the GCC and the only Abu Dhabi based company listed in London and a part of the FTSE 100, NMC has been at the forefront of technology adoption and Malaffi is one of them. The format promises to bring together all the stakeholders on a single shared platform of knowledge exchange and we all stand to benefit out of it as it would enhance the level of transparency, accessibility and accountability shall help the caregivers and patients equally,” said Prasanth Manghat, CEO and Executive Director of NMC Health Plc.

As stated in the DOH Policy on ADHIE, the DOH seeks to ensure that all licensed Healthcare Facilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi participate in Malaffi. All Abu Dhabi healthcare facilities are expected to connect to Malaffi by the end of 2019.
