There have been nearly 800,000 visits to Expo Dubai 2020 since its opening this month, the latest figures show.

From October 1 to October 17, the fair logged a total of 771,477 ticketed visits, up by 359,709 from the first ten days of opening. The latest figures also show a 12 percent week-on-week growth, according to Sconaid McGeachin, the senior vice president of communications.

Expo 2020, which spans more than four square kilometres, is seen as a key driver for the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. Organisers have been beefing up ticket sales to boost traffic to the site, offering promotions such as the so-called October Pass, which offers unlimited visits to the Expo’s venue for the entire month.

The organisers are more keen to focus on the number of visits than ticket sales. “We’re not going to report on our ticket [sales] because to us, it’s more about the visits… [But] I can tell you we’re absolutely delighted with our ticket sales,” McGeachin said in response to Zawya’s query.

Repeat visitors

Among the visitors that passed through the Expo’s entrance gates, more than 100,000 of them have come to the site twice, while 35,000 others have made three visits.

“So, that’s within just a period of over a couple of weeks. It’s fantastic to see that people are coming, not just once or twice, but three times… There is just so much to see here with constant new events every day,” McGeachin said at a media briefing.

Expo visitors have also come from a total of 181 countries, nearly matching the 192 country pavilions spread across the site.

The number of virtual visitors to the event’s online platform has also climbed to 9.3 million since October 1, up by 1.5 million from the previous week.
