Amazon UAE rolls out automatic delivery service for household staples

Customers can now schedule order refills at a frequency of their choice

Amazon UAE has rolled out Subscribe & Save, an automatic delivery service for household staples on demand.

The news comes as online shopping continues to grow and e-commerce firms are increasingly competing for market share in the region.

The American tech giant’s subscription programme was introduced in other markets in 2007. It allows shoppers to sign up for a system that automatically refills their orders and delivers items to their doorstep at the frequency of their choosing.

Customers can schedule automatic deliveries for essentials they tend to consume regularly,  like coffee, water, soap, wipes, diapers and detergents.

According to Stefano Martinelli, GCC retail director for Amazon, the automated service will help customers save time and money. One of the benefits being offered by the subscription programme is an upfront 10 percent discount on items included in the service, as well as free delivery across the UAE.

Among the items included in the programme are home and personal care products, pet store items, as well as food and nutrition.

The e-commerce sector in the UAE has seen spikes in consumer spending since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Some brick and mortar retailers have recently reported up to 500 percent increase in online sales, as consumers stay away from physical stores.

Due to increased online shopping, the e-commerce market in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region  is expected to hit $19.7 billion this year alone, with Saudi Arabia accounting for the biggest share at $8.3 billion, followed by the UAE at $7.5 billion.
