Muscat: Contracts worth around OMR100 million will be awarded for the new Muscat International Airport, said a senior official.
"The contracts that we actually presented today are worth and almost going to reach to OMR100 million," Aimen Ahmed Al Hosni, ACEO of Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC), told reporters on Thursday.
He made the comments after a Business Opportunities Forum conducted by OAMC, during which the company detailed the upcoming opportunities in the fields of operation, facility management, furniture and retails at the airport.
The total number of the tenders that will be floated is approximately 40, Al Hosni said. Asked when the contracts will be awarded, he said, "Hopefully, we (will) close everything by mid of next year."
SMEs
The official also noted that 10 per cent of the contracts will definitely be given to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
During the forum, Samer Ahmed Al Nabhani, general manager for commercial operations at OAMC, said that a number of requests for proposal (RFP) will be floated in the first quarter of 2016, which will be dedicated to SMEs.
These RFPs will be in the fields of F&B (food and beverage) and retails, he said, adding that more than 1,000 sqm will be dedicated to SMEs in these two sectors.
OAMC is supporting SMEs and encourages these businesses to participate in the upcoming RFPs, Al Nabhani noted.
A series of presentations were delivered on various aspects of the massive expansion plans for the new airport and the many business opportunities in different fields such as information and communication technology, support and maintenance, facility management and non-aeronautical services.
Various contracts
With over 18,000 square metres of commercial space available in the terminal, ten-year contracts for each of the key categories were highlighted at the forum.
The following RFPs have been released, with the submission date being early next year: Facility management - provision for cleaning services at passenger terminal, for cleaning services for landside facilities and ancillary buildings, for waste management and pest control service; ICT support and maintenance - operation and maintenance of ICT server farm, of business systems, airport systems ICT network data center, security and telecom infrastructure; and non-aeronautical services - irrigation and landscaping maintenance services cargo handler at MCT, cargo handler at regionals including SLL, MRO at regionals including SLL (maintenance, repair and overhaul for aircraft safety and worthiness), FBO at SLL and MCT (fixed, base operator for managing and supporting general aviation), ground handling at MCT, ground handling at regionals including SLL.
Passenger movement at the airport grew by 5 per cent in 2014 compared to 2013, while aircraft movement increased by 2 per cent. There are 33 airlines operating to and from the airport that received more than 8.7 million passengers towards the end of 2014.
