National flag carrier announced in a statement Tuesday it is considering the possibility of laying off 400 employees in 2017 on a voluntary basis, while taking into account the company’s needs in sensitive sectors and specialties.

This is in response to information reported in the media concerning the possibility of dismissing 1,700 agents as part of the company's restructuring plan.

Tunisair insisted on the importance of its human capital in the context of this restructuring, which essentially aims at preserving the company in the face of intense international competition.

The voluntary separation plans are part of the government's policy to restore the financial equilibrium of state-owned companies, the source added.
