DUBAI, Nov 22 (Reuters) - Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) is in the process of loading its first sample shipment of bauxite from its Guinea mine to China, the chief executive officer said on Tuesday.
The state-owned company is constructing a $5 billion complex which will include a bauxite mine, alumina refinery and a port. The marine facility opened in October.
The mine is expected to produce 12 million tonnes of bauxite a year when commercial operations begin in the fourth quarter of 2018, Abdulla Kalban told an industry event.
It will supply the aluminium ore for EGA's primary production facilities in the United Arab Emirates, with some of the bauxite to be exported to Asia.
China is the main market for bauxite exports, currently accounting for 55.7 percent of global aluminium production in September.
