In line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and National Transformation Program 2020 focusing on patient engagement strategies and redefining healthcare experience, the conference gathered the best minds from healthcare to share insights on transforming healthcare experience through a smart intersection of compassion, science and technology.

Dr. Abdulelah Alhawsawi, Director General, Saudi Patient Safety Center delivered the opening speech and discussed improving safety culture and the importance of patient empowerment and public engagement. He said, “Transforming health care service experience through Patient empowerment is imperative. Saudi Patient Safety Center is pursing patient empowerment strategies that build capacity and meaningful participation of both the patients, families and healthcare providers through several programs/initiatives. This platform will enable the sharing of practices, evidence and hopefully some learnings and best practices that can be used in this region. Influence policy makers, funders to invest and support policies that are enabling.”

During her keynote, Dr. Eman Mohammed Alturaiki, Director General – Patient Experience Center, Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia commented on the initiatives by the Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia in enhancing patient experience in the Kingdom, “Quality of care and creating value to our people is a strategic priority in the Saudi National Transformational Plan.  Patient Experience acts as a main pillar in our definition of quality of care along with patient safety and effectiveness. The Ministry of Health is investing in the promotion of patient centred care to transform healthcare delivery and to drive service excellence in the sector”


The conference chairman, Dr. Rana Al Mandil, Director, Quality and Strategic Planning Administration, King Fahad Specialist Hospital Dammam, said, “Patient Experience is gaining huge traction within the healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Health is taking the lead by launching the national Patient Experience Measurement Program (PXMP) across all regions of the Kingdom. This national program has created an environment of positive competition between the different regions. When all regions compete to better serve their patients, everybody wins”.

Addressing excellence beyond survey, Dr. Majdah Shugdar, Director General Assistant for Healthcare Accreditation Department, Saudi Central Board For Accreditation of Health Care Institutions – CBAHI, quoted that “A great patient experience is linked to the quality of services and clinical outcomes.  We, as healthcare providers, should devote our efforts to promote a fulfilling experience for every patient every day and in every visit. High rated Patient experience across the continuum is the real accreditation certificate."
